JOB LOCATION: Walnut Creek Family YMCA
SHIFT AVAILABLE: Various shifts available
PAY RATE: $11.00-$13.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: January 29, 2024 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
POSITION SUMMARY:As a Lifeguard, you will have the opportunity to provide everyone with a safe place to swim, learn, grow and play. You will maintain a safe swimming environment in the pool, on the pool deck and the surrounding areas. You will be able to relate to people in a positive manner to build relationships with all who enter the pool.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Enforce rules and procedures
2. Keep pool and pool deck free of obstructions and safety hazards
3. Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas
4. Handle equipment as assigned to ensure safety
5. Record chemical readings
6. Know emergency procedures and is able to demonstrate them
7. Maintain emergency equipment
8. Respond to all emergencies
9. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person
10. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
2. Must be at least 16 years of age
3. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting if hired
4. Intro to Y's Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired
5. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate with people and monitor property and activity
2. Ability to remain alert at all time
3. Ability to perform strenuous physical activity
4. Ability to adapt to changing working conditions

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

2. Ability to work with diverse group of people
3. Ability to work with minimal supervision
4. Ability to maintain control even when distracted by noise and activity
5. Attend training and/or courses as required by the YMCA
