Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to enforce pool rules and regulations and monitor pool use for the safety of the general public.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide proper surveillance of facility and patrons.
  • Enforce all Aquatic Center policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and eliminate or minimize them to ensure safety.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
  • Provide proper emergency care (first aid/resuscitation/CPR/AED) when necessary.
  • Report unsafe/unsatisfactory conditions and behaviors to the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and organized pool area.
  • Test water and complete chemical log records.
  • Teach quality swim lessons in accordance with current American Red Cross standards and guidelines.
  • Be prepared and organized when teaching swim lessons.
  • Maintain a safe and controlled class environment when teaching.
  • Interact in a positive and effective manner with the parents of young program participants.
  • Properly complete assigned records and reports and submit them within the required time frame.
  • Work nights and weekends.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Applicant must be at least (16) years of age. (1) year experience in the aquatic field.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a current certification in American Red Cross training, Water Safety and CPR. Must have experience with CivicRec or equivalent recreation program system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work at indoor and outdoor pools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patrons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work may be performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, or rude/irate customers.
