Job Summary:
  • Evaluates and assesses performance related to Life Safety and fire emergency readiness.
  • Acts as the liaison to the various sections of the Chicago Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau (CFD) and The University of Chicago Risk Management department.
  • Evaluates Life Safety with regard to (but not limited to) construction risk assessments and documentation database, inspects constructions sites and evaluates potential Life Safety risks for building occupants including exiting, penetrations, evacuation, fire devices, and fire equipment.
  • Investigates and evaluates safety incidents.
  • Performs fire drills on various shifts.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Evaluates and assesses performance related to Life Safety and fire emergency readiness.
  • Evaluates Life Safety with regard to (but not limited to) construction risk assessments and documentation database, inspects constructions sites and evaluates potential Life Safety risks for building occupants including exiting, penetrations, evacuation, fire devices, and fire equipment
  • Acts as the liaison to the various sections of the Chicago Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau (CFD) and The University of Chicago Risk Management
  • Coordinates construction risk assessments, inspects constructions sites and evaluates potential Life Safety risks for building occupants.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in fire safety engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Chicago Building Code (CBC), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
  • At least three years' experience in related field
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to complete required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods and climb ladders.
  • Ability to pass a physical to wear respiratory protection as part of the emergency response team.
  • Ability to accurately maintain records, accounts, and files on computer.
  • Show excellent verbal and written communication skills.
