Boys & Girls Village offers an array of services for children and their families. The services range from highly structured sub-acute services on campus to intensive intervention and care in the home and community. The function of the Life Safety Department is to maintain a safe environment for clients, staff and visitors.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Life Safety Officer will follow all policies, regulations, and rules, set by the Life Safety Manager, to ensure that the BGV campus is maintaining a safe environment. This role is considered and classified as "essential" to the operations of the Agency
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor all incoming traffic and ascertain to the best of his/her ability, whether each incoming vehicle has a purpose on campus, to answer any questions, give direction to visitors and to look for suspicious vehicles or activity.
- Monitor that staff and visitors are parking in assigned areas.
- Open and close all construction gates.
- Check vehicles for BGV parking permits and report findings to Life Safety Manager.
- Report any and all relevant issues to the Life Safety Manager in a timely manner.
- Wear uniform issued by BGV VP of Facilities and Life Safety Manager.
- Assist in operations of the facilities department, at the request of the Vice-President of Facilities, during special circumstances (i.e. snow removal)
- Assume role, as assigned by Life Safety Manager, during emergency circumstances, such as campus lock-down or evacuation.
- Conduct the transfer of incoming and outgoing mail.
- Operate systems within the guardhouse to control campus access and communications and also monitor closed circuit television cameras.
- Life Safety Officer shall report to the Life Safety Manager.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carries out other job-related duties, as instructed
- Working in both our Bridgeport & Milford Locations
- This role is considered "essential" to the operations of the agency
- This position is a maximum of 24 hours with at least one weekend day a MUST
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Ability to carry out detailed oral and written instructions
- Ability to relate to students, staff and public in a courteous manner
- As essential staff, you must be able to work outside normal business hours, if needed. This may include holidays, weekends and overnights
- Must have CT State guard card
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow and ice
