The Facility - Northern Arizona VA Medical System
Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System (NAVAHCS) is a Joint Commission-accredited, complexity level three facility serving over 29,000 Veterans across 65,000 square miles of Northern Arizona. NAVAHCS provides a continuum of primary and secondary level medical, rehabilitative and long-term care to Veterans residing in northern and central Arizona. Acute medical care consists of primary and secondary inpatient medicine and ambulatory care, which includes general medicine, ambulatory procedures, and selected specialized medical clinics. The Emergency Department is open 24 hours/7 days a week. The VA Medical Center is located in Prescott, Arizona and Community Based Outpatient Clinics are located in Anthem, Flagstaff, Cottonwood, Kingman and Lake Havasu City, AZ. NAVAHCS has six Outreach (Telehealth) Clinics; Holbrook, Page, Tuba City, Polacca, Chinle and Kayenta AZ. NAVAHCS catchment area covers 65,000 square miles of northern Arizona.
- Assisting with minor procedures, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patients, ensuring comfort and privacy, and monitoring the patient during the procedure;
- Providing direct nursing care to patients with an emphasis on patient teaching, care coordination and interventions such EKGs and phlebotomy;
- Documenting care activities;
- Performing procedures, treatments and delegated tasks;
- Administering medication and oxygen therapy;
- Issuing clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated; and
- Cleaning and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), previously known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
