Recreational- Art & Music Therapist-Hickory Behavioral Network
Direct Report to Director of Clinical Services
Primary Purpose and Function:
The Recreational Therapist shall be responsible for providing a full range of services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in a team environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.
The incumbent shall demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, curriculum development, staff education in quality group facilitation practices problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible team fashion. The selected candidate will be expected to work weekend and holiday rotations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Highly Preferred: Experience in hospital based mental health therapy services. Not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred: Master’s degree) in a Health and Human Services field, such as Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Movement Therapy or other related field.
  • Experience with developmentally delayed or mentally ill adults is preferred but not required
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and HIPPA compliance
  • Basic computer skills. Electronic health record systems experience preferred
  • Ohio driver’s license and good driving record
  • Certification as CTRS, MT-BC or Therapy related field preferred.
  • Genuine respect for the patients we serve and the challenges that face them daily.
  • Role model of the highest quality of customer service
  • Schedule flexibility, holiday and weekend rotations may be required
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsibilities:
    • Performs activity / recreational assessments, develops treatment plan goals and interventions specific to recreational therapy treatment modalities and in compliance with hospital, state and federal standards.
    • Documents and reports patients' response to interventions, re-assesses and evaluates patients' progress towards goals, modifies treatment goals/plan as necessary.
    • Facilitates multiple groups and individual therapy throughout the day. Documents patient interactions, response to interventions and progress toward goals.
    • Demonstrates and exemplifies commitment to service excellence, patient advocacy and care.
