We are looking for an OB Technician to add to our Birthing Suite team. Under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse, responsible for assisting in the nursing care and surgical services in the maternity services area including the provision of patient care necessary for comfort, hygiene, data collection, and documentation. Activities are based on accepted standards of operating room and obstetrical practice and are performed within the scope of education, training, and experience. The OB Technician is responsible to maintain current knowledge of trends in the operating room, including new products, procedures, and physicians techniques. Performs indirect and direct patient care of the neonate, and female patients under the direct supervision of a RN. Provides patient care support, maintenance of nursing unit, housekeeping and dietary tasks, and clerical support for the nursing unit
Essential Functions
- Assist the Obstetrical Team during procedures
- Assist the team as a scrub during Cesarean Sections, Vaginal deliveries and other surgical procedures.
- Maintains and prepares Cesarean Delivery and other delivery rooms in state of readiness by ensuring adequate supplies and equipment at all times
- Maintains correct sponge and instrument count during OB procedures
- Anticipates physician needs
- Creates and maintains a sterile field
- Ensure sharps are disposed of properly
- Assists in terminal clean and room turn over cleaning procedures
- Assist with special unit procedures (i.e. vacuum delivery)
- Specimen collection
- Handles and identifies specimens according to established policy.
- Obtain and collect routine specimen
- Communication
- Answers patient call lights and handles patient requests promptly and courteously
- Communicates with patients and visitors appropriately using good guest relations skills.
- Communicates with patients, families, and members of the health care team to provide continuity of care and services
Education Requirements
- LPN or graduate approved Surgical Technology program
- Prefer Certified surgical technologist
- Within 6 months of hire completes the requirements to become a birth registrar and notary.
Experience Requirements
- One year hospital experience preferred as a Surgical Scrub or LPN
Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
- Must have customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
