Under the supervision of the Outpatient Pharmacy Manager, the outpatient Pharmacy Technician will provide a broad range of delegated technical and clerical functions necessary to support the provision of pharmacy products and services; supports department quality initiatives. Technical duties include: accurate and timely medication dispensing, medication refill management, departmental cleaning and organizing, report generation and review, conducting billing and medication utilization audits, filing and record keeping.
Pay Range: $18.49 - $27.38/hour
Employment Type: Full Time Days, 80 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am -4:00 pm
Requirements: High School Diploma/GED required, Pharmacy Technician license required
Medication Dispensing
- Accurately count, measure, and dispense medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Verify medication orders against prescriptions and patient profiles.
- Label and package medication according to pharmacy and regulatory guidelines.
Patient Interaction
- Provide friendly and professional customer service to patients answering questions and addressing concerns within scope of license.
- Collect and update patient information in pharmacy systems.
- Verify insurance coverage and process payments per benefit guidelines.
Inventory Management
- Stock shelves and maintain proper inventory of medication and supplies, according to product requirements.
- Perform cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Order and receive new medication ensuring safe handling and proper storage.
Administrative tasks
- Process refills and transfers of prescriptions using pharmacy software.
- Maintain record of communication with healthcare providers via fax/electronic medical record as appropriate.
- Prepare insurance claims and other documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Support all accreditation and regulatory functions.
