This position is located atMCAS Miramar.Candidates selected for this position will serve as a Library Technician
Major Duties
Responsible for checking library materials in and out and verifies that customers are authorized to use the facility. Registers new customers and issues library cards. Explains library rules, regulations, circulation procedures, and entitlements to library customers. Takes requests for reserves and inter/intra library loans. Assists customers in locating and utilizing library departments; catalogs and processes incoming items; assesses collection for gaps; improves efficiency and effectiveness of Library programs and services under Library Director's guidance.
Under direct supervision, the incumbent communicates status of projects to program manager, organizes, and prioritizes work independently. The incumbent has the ability to quickly revise, evaluate, and distribute guidance on continuously changing initiatives and policies for library in multiple areas including Makerspace, incoming Databases, the Semper FindIt transition, and Programming. Supports work on technological, industrial, and digital projects.
Incumbent will create and update Electronic Resources and Databases instruction guides and provides appropriate training to staff and patrons. Must communicate technical information in a simple, clear, and straightforward manner.
Utilizes social media and updates websites to promote library services and events. Showcases programming by creating appropriate marketing material. Provides outreach and actively pursues contacts with other MCCS departments to publicize Library Services by participating in fairs and events.
Performs a variety of general office and clerical tasks in support of library operations. Answers the telephone, takes messages and refers callers to appropriate staff members.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must have 1 year of experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic and well-established library procedures related to routine and repetitive aspects of major library functions. Must have knowledge of the library's on-line computer system. Must have the ability to operate library equipment such as copying machine, scanners, 3D printers, and computers. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.
Proven track record in developing programs and services is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidate has the ability to take initiative on assigned projects to align functionality and meet the needs of a dynamic and diverse population.

1. Spouses must meet the minimum qualifications posted in the job announcement.

4. Spousal Preference applicants must provide a copy of the PCS order identifying a spouse's authorized move and the sponsor's reporting date to the new duty location. If the spouse is not listed on the PCS orders, the spouse must provide documentation (i.e. marriage certificate, valid military ID, etc.) verifying marriage prior to PCS orders (must have been married to the military sponsor before relocation to the new duty station). 5. Spouses with current or prior Federal service, submit a copy of the most recent performance appraisal rating.
