Job Description:
Job Title: Library Systems Administrator
Department: Library Services
Position Type: Staff, professional twelve-month
Reports To: Director of Library Services
Primary Responsibilities
  • Administer integrated Library Systems, content management systems, and discovery interfaces
  • Load, maintain, and analyze all electronic resources; including, but not limited to: e-books, e-journals, and databases
  • Analyze all library resources and usage, and report as needed to support collection management and all library operations
  • Serve as the LOUIS System Administrator
  • Serve as a library liaison to select academic departments
  • Serve as the library's liaison to Institutional Research and Effectiveness and furnish statistical data on request
  • Responsible for computer hardware and software selection, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Responsible for access terms and contracts for electronic/digital materials
  • Serve as Systems Administrator for local digitization and digital library development
  • As needed, provide training and/or quality control to library faculty and staff
  • Work as team player with the library faculty and staff to develop policies and to provide excellent library service
  • Serve as the library liaison to the Informational Education Technology (IET) Department
  • Administer the library webpages
  • Create library impact statements for new and revised courses
  • Attend conferences and workshops to stay informed on system related issues
  • Create and post tutorials and guides on library webpage
  • Creation and advanced editing of media for the purposes of instruction and promotion
  • Occasionally design and conduct library instruction sessions
  • Occasionally staff the reference desk
  • Represent the library on faculty senate and administrative campus-wide committees as needed
  • Supervise support staff and student workers as needed
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to Library and Information Science or Computer Information Systems and two years' work experience in a related field

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
  • Experience with supporting an integrated library system or discovery service or other library or collection management systems
  • Knowledge of library standards, including MARC and XML
  • Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony
  • Experience with library cataloging and/or acquisitions experience
  • Working knowledge of various technologies used in library automation systems, such as EZproxy, MarcEdit, OpenURL link resolvers, OCLC WorldCat
  • Working knowledge of one or more general programming languages: PHP, Python, Perl, JavaScript
  • Working knowledge of XML and XSLT, particularly library specific applications such as MARCXML, MODS, Dublin Core
  • Working knowledge of web technologies, such as HTML, CSS, content management systems
