Branch Operations Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Student Supervisor.
Under the general direction of the Daily Operations Supervisor, and in coordination with the Supervisory Team, coordinates and manages the administrative supervisory functions for student hiring, training, payroll processing, scheduling, and maintenance of payroll records. Maintains the daily operations and stacks activities for the seven branches within Branch Operations Services as well as at the Tateuchi East Asia Library. Regular schedule is Monday – Friday and the times are to be negotiated but fall between 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. May be scheduled days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedule may vary during quarter breaks and summer quarter.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory
  • Supervises 20-30 student staff, establishing daily goals and monitoring work.
  • Interviews, hires and evaluates, counsels, disciplines and terminates student staff.
  • Monitors departmental student budget.
  • Responsible for administrative supervisory functions including approving timesheets, onboarding, and offboarding staff.
  • Schedules student staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring public service desks are staffed during open hours.
  • Creates and implements changes to departmental procedures and strategies.
    Training
  • Develops training resources and tools.
  • Trains staff in the use of circulation systems, circulation procedures, services, and policies.
  • Tracks student staff progress and competency.
    General
  • Works together in a team environment to provide user services to a diverse community.
  • Resolves complex circulation problems.
  • Troubleshoots hardware, software, and network problems in the unit.
  • Participates on committees, work groups, and task forces outside the department.
  • Communicates appropriately, effectively, and positively. Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in webinars, meetings, and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduation AND four years of library technical experience, including one year of lead and/or supervisory experience OR equivalent education/experience.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to perform work accurately, quickly, with attention to detail, in an environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone, and in written correspondence.
  • Demonstrated training experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with diverse populations. Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community.
  • Ability to move between libraries spread across the University of Washington Seattle campus.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience using an integrated library system.
  • Experience creating and/or maintaining Access databases.
  • Experience with scanning software.
  • Experience scheduling.
  • Ability to lift and carry 25–40 pound crates and push heavy book trucks.
