The Jewish Library of Baltimore is seeking a full time Library Manager who reads Hebrew. The Jewish Library of Baltimore is a dynamic community hub for engagement and learning for children and adults, connecting the Baltimore community to a diverse collection of Jewish resources and programs.
Position Description
The Library Manager supports the Executive Director, Judaic Curriculum Specialist and Community Librarian.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staffing the Circulation Desk; Assuming responsibility for telephone & email correspondence with library patrons.
- Maintaining the library catalog, Follett Destiny; Creating & updating attendance lists (spreadsheets) from the LGL database; Keeping track of library data & submitting it to the Associated for data collection.
- Maintain the physical collection of books and resources, shelf-reading and keeping the collection orderly. Repairing or replacing resources as needed.
- Communicating with marketing: Creating distribution lists and updating events and reservations. Working with marketing on content for social media, the library's monthly newsletter and the Associated monthly newsletter library contribution.
- Communicating monthly with community Book Club organizers.
- Supporting the Community Librarian with communication to schools and families regarding library materials and programs of interest. Including, corresponding with volunteers and school contacts/liaisons.
- Supporting the Judaic Curriculum Specialist by gathering information from schools and teachers as needed. Working with the Judaic Curriculum Specialist on Grants researching deadlines, drafting grant requests, and submitting reports for approval. Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities. Sample of grant writing will be requested from qualifying candidates.
- Assisting the director of the library with Board correspondence. Scheduling meetings, creating biweekly newsletters, and sending out reminders to the board members. Attending five Board meetings throughout the year.
- Other administrative tasks as required such as completing check requests, paying bills, printer/copier maintenance and office supply ordering.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Applicant required to read Hebrew.
- Requires weekend and/or evenings.Scheduled workdays: Sunday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Tuesday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Thursday 9:00 pm - 5:00 pm & Friday 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.
- Bachelor's degree required Master's degree preferred
- 2 - 5 years library experience
- 3 - 6 years supervising experience
- Excellent knowledge of writing proposals, proposal submission and fundraising process
- Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization.
- Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
- Multitasking, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity.
- Proficiency and experience in working the Dewey Decimal System
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (including mail merging in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), Nexonia, Concur, Little Green Light, Constant Contact, Destiny Discover and Titlewave
- Must be able to move/lift/carry twenty-five pounds as needed.
