At a Glance! Under the direction of the Library Circulation Services Manager, the Library & Archives Paraprofessional 1 (LAPP 1) performs entry-level professional library activities to support patrons of a busy Library & Learning Commons. We are looking for someone who has exceptional customer service skills, strives to maintain accuracy in their work, has strong attention to detail, and has a basic understanding of how an academic library operates. This position will assist in guiding the work of student employees, helping with stacks maintenance such as shelf-reading and shifting as well as looking for lost or missing items.
This position is categorized as a Library & Archives Paraprofessional 1 under State of Washington Class Specification and works 75 hours or less per month. This position is a temporary part-time position not to exceed 1,050 hours in a consecutive 12-month period. The typical scheduled work hours are between 8 am - 6 pm. In person work is required.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide staff coverage and oversight for the circulation desk operations and the Learning Commons
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Assist with directing the work of student workers as needed
  • Perform a variety of physical and digital library circulation functions, such as checking materials in and out, processing new items, and helping with stacks maintenance
  • Coordinate the removal of weeded materials
  • Promote the library through social media, signage, and physical displays
  • Assist with management of the LCC archives
  • Provide library assistance and general Learning Commons support to patrons through in person, over the phone, or through email
  • Coordinate and tracking library items returned at the end of each quarter
  • Organize shelving, shifting, and shelf-reading items in the collection
  • Assist with basic tasks for other Learning Commons areas as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of clerical, customer service, or closely related experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required
  • Must be reliable and dependable, and have a flexible, can-do attitude
  • Must have outstanding customer service and communication skills
  • Must be comfortable using technology and social media
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous work or volunteer experience in the functional operations of a library, including experience with library management systems such as Alma/Primo, is preferred.
