Job description

We are seeking an energetic, innovative individual to fill a Librarian/Media Specialist position at our Middle/High School campus.
At School Lane Charter School (SLCS), the Library Media Specialist possesses a solid vision, strong planning skills, and a motivation for collaborating with staff in the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary projects. The role also requires clear communication of how inquiry and the research process is promoted throughout the school community, as well as how the Library Media Center (LMC) supports inquiry in all aspects of school learning. We envision the LMC as a hub of communication, a welcoming, active space for inquiry, collaboration, investigation, presentation, and reflection. In summary, the Library Media Specialist is responsible for inspiring and nurturing the inquiry process, not only within the LMC but throughout the SLCS community. This will result in students who are equipped and empowered to locate and access information, then develop a topic of interest into a carefully researched, tightly argued essay for any content area.
Duties Include:

  • Designs, manages, and adapts the system of the library in order to support IB curriculum and foster international mindedness.
  • Supports staff in the collaborative development of targeted learning activities for individual courses that promote inquiry and are grounded in IB grading criteria.
  • Articulates how LMC experiences complement IB Learner Profile traits and IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills
  • Manages LMC online platform (MackinVIA) and research products (Gale, ProQuest) to provide engaging and productive inquiry experiences.
  • Curates diverse digital and print collections that reflect the community's needs and objectives for personal, academic or professional learning, multiliteracies, and language development.
  • Promotes reading for personal enjoyment, through the exposure to relevant, current, and multicultural text with the aim of creating lifelong readers.
  • Leads large group trainings for MYP Personal Project and DP Extended Essay for teachers, students, and families.
  • Mentors students through their MYP Personal Project and DP Extended Essay.
  • Develops LMC procedures for individual, small group, and whole-class learning activities.
  • Delivers both formal and informal instruction in library, media, and technology information skills.
  • Administers policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the library, including cataloging, processing, organizing, and circulating materials.
  • Assists students and teachers in accessing, evaluating, and using information from print and electronic resources.
  • Collaborates with teachers to promote resource-based learning (learning which results from the use of multiple resources) and information literacy (skills of information problem-solving).

Position Requirements Include:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid PDE certification in Library Science PK-12
  • Prior experience with IB MYP/DP a plus
  • Strong researching, planning, and organizational skills; ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Dynamic communication and interpersonal skills, specifically in designing LMC learning activities for all students, staff, and parents.
  • Desire and ability to engage in continuing education and professional development.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Excellent dependability and reliability, especially with attention to detail and task completion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience with Google platforms (Docs, Sheets, Forms), MS Office, and online library services (MackinVIA, Gale)
