We support and encourage education and the love of reading in a welcoming atmosphere with a knowledgeable, service-oriented staff. The department has two full-service facilities and employs approximately 60 full-time and part-time employees.
The next chapter of the Rancho Cucamonga Public Library program is the pending completion of Phase 2 of the Second Story and Beyond® project, which includes the construction of a children's discovery space with over 5,500 sq ft of exhibit space, a portion of which will be dedicated to STEAM-related educational exhibits and programs for the community and greater region.

You'll be responsible for:
  • Working with the Senior Librarian for Second Story and Beyond® (a children's interactive discovery center/museum) to help coordinate the day-to-day operations of the space.
  • Supervising and evaluating the work performance of Second Story and Beyond® service staff and volunteers.
  • Assisting in the management of the Second Story and Beyond® budget.
  • Working collaboratively to develop and maintain the Second Story and Beyond® materials collection.
  • Participating in developing, planning, and presenting Second Story and Beyond® programs, special events, and rentals.
  • Assisting in the coordination and evaluation of contract classes.
  • Acting as a designated "person in charge" and ensuring adherence to the Library's Code of Conduct and policies.
  • Other professional and organizational duties as needed.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an American Library Association accredited college with a Master's degree in Library Science or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional library work; basic reference methods; principles and techniques used in bibliographic research; current library technology. Ability to analyze community needs and recommend plans for modifying or extending library services; use a microcomputer to search for information and to tie into network sources from other library systems; locate information on and instruct patrons in the use of CD-ROMs; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals to promote library programs and meet patron needs; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference books and boxes of book shipments and other materials. Moving from place to place within the office; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal frequently and for periods of one hour or more.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors or noise. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends.
