Within the Insurance Services Division, the Claims Administration program has an exciting opportunity to join the dedicated team as a Claim Processor. We are seeking candidates who are passionate about providing exceptional customer service and don't want to miss an opportunity to contribute to L&I's mission of keeping workers safe and working.
Claims Processor Program Coordinators assist Claim Managers by performing customer service, review and process routine activities, document actions, and establish task lists. You'll exercise independent judgment performing assigned work activities, utilizing program knowledge and experience in compliance with Title 51, agency policy, program procedures, practices and standards.
Duties
Some of what you'll do:
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers such as injured workers, providers, representatives and internal staff, including intermediate bilingual customer service.
  • Return phone calls and respond to inquiries to resolve customer questions and concerns through a review of claim file information.
  • Issue payment for the first three days of time-loss, at the direction of a Claim Manager.
  • Review, prioritize and process mail items, remove duplicate messages and request information be added to claim files.
  • Bookmark key information in claim files to improve the efficiency for claim managers and permit clear focus on adjudication of the complex issues in each claim.
  • Review, and take action on secured messages and suspended bills.
  • Prepare outgoing correspondence and respond to claim file requests.
  • Reactivate and restore archived claim files in LINIIS and ORION computer systems.
  • Create and maintain records of activities, document actions taken using a list, via email and regular communication with claim managers and supervisor.
  • Research, analyze and identify key data points and produce reports on activities, trends and work efficiencies. Present data and identified trends to unit and claim processor teams, management and others.

Qualifications
Required:
High school graduation or equivalent
And
Two years of experience in the program specialty
Or
Equivalent education/experience
And
Ability and skill to keyboard at a minimum of 40 words per minute, accounting for errors.
If hired as bilingual, our top applicant will be required to pass an assessment of your ability to write and speak Spanish fluently. We do not use translating software. Employees with bilingual responsibilities receive a 5% increase in pay.
Desired:
  • Six-months experience in a call center environment.
  • Demonstrated research and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written and presentation. Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Be able to access and move between multiple computer programs; databases, word processing, imaging systems, and Internet to enter and update information.
  • Working knowledge of Title 51, Claims Administration policies, practices and work standards.
  • Working knowledge of claims operation systems including LINIIS and ORION.

Insurance Benefits
Employees and their families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout the state.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
Social Security
All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Note: Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave day(s), please refer to position specific Collective Bargaining Agreements for more information.
Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
