Come and join and grow with The Tuerk House team, work in the recently renovated campus and where we just completed a $10.2 million project that includes a pharmacy and a state-of-the-art café where patients can choose from healthy food options. It also includes 18 more beds for in-patient detox treatment. There are currently 40 beds in use, and by the end of 2023, the Tuerk House hopes to have 92 beds in which people can recover comfortably.

Job Summary

Reporting to Director of Medical Services, the Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C), This position requires an experienced, skilled clinician with experience with the behavioral health population, triage, trauma treatment, emotional disturbance, chronic and severe psychopathology. Experience working with adults.

This person must have a broad understanding of how a program operates and how each client moves along in the Maryland Crisis Stabilization Center.

Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to the LSSW, peer specialists and intake specialists and ensures work is coordinated among the staff who are direct reports.
  • Assists staff with planning needs of clients and assist them in utilizing internal and external resources.
  • Perform brief bio-psycho-social diagnostic assessments and mental status exams. Ensure that each individual has a well-developed discharge plan.
  • Make referrals to the specialty mental health or other community mental health or substance abuse agencies as needed
  • Apply evidence-based interventions and treatment to patients with general behavioral problems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic evaluation methods, mental status exams, and use of the current DSM.
  • Respond to the patients’ clinical needs using differential diagnosis and treatment approaches.
  • Provide crisis intervention services when required.
  • Provide referrals to community agencies as needed.
  • Participate in the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Maintain clinical documentation in EMR as required by Tuerk House, Inc.
  • Complete all required documentation for insurance and established clinic policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision. The LGSW is supervised, according to their discipline regulations, by an LCSW-C.
  • To maintain clinical records in accordance with insurance regulations and established clinic policies and procedures.
  • To comply with clinical productivity standards of the Stabilization Center.
  • Serve as a liaison between the somatic care sites and the mental health specialty clinic providing the link between psychiatrists, mental health providers, and primary care providers if urgent consultation is required for patients seen in the triage process.
  • Participate in departmental or agency meetings as required by supervisor.
  • Maintain statistical and tracking database of patients seen and the outcome of service delivery
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other community agencies on behalf of clients and/or the agency.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline.
  • Ability to effectively organize time and responsibilities.
  • Include all outside community resources into the treatment planning
  • Initiate discharge plans as needed and coordinate the transfer of patient care to appropriate provider, if required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and resolution, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate training and continuing education as mandated by Tuerk House and discipline licensing agency.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required
The LCSW-C is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C), who provides specialty mental health services in the Tuerk House Maryland Crisis Stabilization Center triage and clinical functions described for the LCSW-C position.

Must have a minimum of 3-5 years providing therapy services to inner city clients with trauma histories, including diagnostic assessment experience, triage interview experience, and experience working with dually diagnosed population.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Ability to plan and organize work initiatives to successfully accomplish center/organizational goals and objectives. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate as appropriate. Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify, develop and implement short/long-term strategic goals and objectives. Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust. Ability to think critically as well as apply critical thinking skills. Ability to: ensure and advocate for quality healthcare and services; and, lead and manage a diverse staff.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C).
  • A LGSW degree and license or LGPC degree and license will be accepted for the position with the Maryland Crisis Stabilization Center.

Physical Demands

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.

Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects in excess of 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and repetitive motions.
