The candidate must have extensive experience with the installation, termination and testing of Structured Cable in commercial environments. Responsible for configuring, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, implementing, and planning Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), wireless, wired and voice telecommunication systems. The candidate should have knowledge of BICSI guidelines for proper install and termination procedures. This position requires that you be able to train and supervise apprentices in a team environment while facilitating the installation of cabling and electronics. A focus on safety, quality, production and schedule is fundamental to all work performed. Employees are expected to be committed to excellence and generate a high quality of work. All employees are expected to consistently report to work on time, work well with other employees to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment. MCA Communications will provide hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety vest which must be worn at all time while on the job site. Employees must provide their own hand tools.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Installation of voice and data cables including Cat 5e, Cat 6a, and fiber optic.
  • Terminating and testing of horizontal copper (Cat 5e, Cat 6a).
  • Termination of fiber.
  • Termination of riser cable.
  • Installation of patch panels. 
  • Label and test horizontal cable.
  • Installation of backbone and riser cable (copper & fiber).
  • Installation of interior conduit, Panduit, and Wiremold.
  • Read, interpret, and understand plans and specifications.
  • Installation of plywood and racks.
  • Installation of cable trays in TC, MDF and IDF.
  • Assist in OSP (outside plant) installations.
  • Pulling cable (100 pair or smaller) unassisted.
  • Installing prefab assembly unassisted.
  • Assisting in pulling all size of cables.
  • Installing pull and junction boxes up to 24” x 24”.
  • Assisting with exterior underground layout.
  • Assisting with interior, overhead, and under floor raceways layouts for telecom.
  • Performing an Operational Risk Management Briefing for any task mastered to date.
  • Generating or adding to an Activity Hazard Analysis for any task mastered.
  • Troubleshoot and fix Cat 5, 5e, and Cat 6a cable issues.
  • Terminate various manufacturer types of copper termination blocks.
  • Knowledge of all fiber termination connectors.
  • Mentor and develop Apprentices.


Qualifications:

  • 5 years+ prior experience in commercial communications industry with a prior experience in communications work: including room build-outs, Cat 5, Cat 5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic termination, interpret and maintain drawing and as-builts. Test, troubleshoot, and repair copper/fiber optic cabling.


Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver license
  • Must pass a criminal background check
  • Must pass a drug test
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule (nights and weekends when needed)
  • Must be able to meet physical requirement of construction - lift items up to a minimum of 50 pounds, work in the elements (heat, cold, wind, dust, debris, etc.)
  • High school diploma or equivalent


Abilities:

  • Lift up to 100 pounds at one time and at least 50 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Fully utilize and relocate a 10-12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet; can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  • Full ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, turn, twist, crawl, squat, walk, climb, push, pull, and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see the differences in colors, shades, and brightness
  • Possess the ability to understand and communicate in English at a minimum conversational level.
  • Meet any and all OSHA safety requirements.
