Job description

Nineteen percent of Black families in Minneapolis own their home compared to 57% of white families. Homeownership is the primary driver of intergenerational wealth creation. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to racial equity and a background in mortgage lending. This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. PRG’s regular office hours are M-F 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Summary of position: The Lending Specialist is responsible for processing down payment assistance (DPA) applications aimed at reducing the racial homeownership disparities in the region. Depending on workload, this position may also perform some prepurchase education and advising services.

Responsibilities:

· Obtain or maintain (preferred) an NMLS license within the first 90 days of employment.

· Obtain or maintain HUD Housing Counseling certification within the first 6 months of employment.

· Complete required continuing education on an annual basis.

· Obtain, organize, verify, and analyze all necessary information/documents to process down payment assistance.

· Issue reservations, commitments, and extensions as needed.

· Make approval or denial recommendations as appropriate.

· Prepare DPA closing documents.

· Oversee closing, recording, and transmittal of documents for servicing.

· Possess excellent people skills and be passionate about helping people obtain and sustain successful homeownership.

· Additional duties as assigned.

Provision of these services requires advisors to be able to:

· Ensure compliance with program guidelines and federal regulations.

· Work closely with homebuyers and their loan officers to collect and process loan applications.

· Accurately calculate income and housing/debt ratios.

· Manage multiple loan files at various stages.

· Review mortgage loan eligibility and affordability.

· Routinely calculate income, debt, and housing ratios and perform other mortgage lending-related math.

· Maintain loan files and data following funder and data privacy requirements.

· Demonstrate strong financial skills including knowledge about credit, debt, money management, financial products and services, and consumer protection laws.

Experience and Qualification Requirements

· High School Diploma/GED required; BA/BS preferred.

· Experience in lending required. Experience with case management, housing, lending, or related experience preferred.

· Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases.

· Demonstrable experience working with communities of color and low-income individuals and families.

· Excellent communication skills including ability to establish relationships with clients, loan officers, real estate agents, and others involved in the home buying process.

· Demonstrable attention to detail.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in performing duties.

· Ability to independently operate a motor vehicle. Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to transport materials that are used to facilitate classes and outreach events.

· Ability to work in a busy environment.

· Hear and speak to communicate with others. Ability to listen effectively to other people.

· Strong writing skills.

· Work at a desk, telephone, and computer for extended periods of time.

· Move throughout the office to conduct various tasks.

· Able to perform physical dexterity for computer keyboarding.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

· Current certifications in Homebuyer Counseling, Homebuyer Education, Financial Coaching, Foreclosure Prevention, and HUD Housing Counselor Certification.

· Bilingual in English and Somali is a plus.

· Experience and comfort with public speaking.

Salary and Benefits

· $49,500-$54,500 salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

· Paid time off (22 days in the first year) plus 13 paid holidays

· Employer contribution to 401k.

· Monthly PRG benefit contribution of $750.
