Job Summary


Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is a service agency focused on providing the state government with leadership and guidance to support efficient and effective government, a world class workforce, and responsible financial management. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the legislative and policy process in MMB. As the Legislative Coordinator, you will play an important role in intergovernmental relationships with partners, colleagues, and the people of Minnesota.

Job Summary

The Legislative Coordinator serves under the Director of Government Affairs and provides coordination between MMB and the Governor’s Office, the Legislature, and numerous stakeholders on legislative proposals and the interpretation and implementation of existing and proposed legislation that impacts MMB.

Job duties include:

  • Monitor and track the introduction of bills and conduct research to determine impacts on department programs.
  • Track legislative committee schedules for legislation impacting the agency.
  • Monitor legislative hearings and floor sessions to ensure that the agency appropriately responds to legislation that may be either favorable or detrimental to agency programs and priorities.
  • Assist in providing agency policy updates, talking points, legislative correspondence, testimony and tracking legislative news.
  • Assist with the development of hearing testimony and related materials to ensure agency priorities are reflected and the appropriate agency position is communicated.
  • Maintain and improve the web-based system for tracking relevant bills to efficiently coordinate the bill summary process. This includes, but is not limited to, a system that links companion bills, related bills, and fiscal notes and ensures appropriate approval of information.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and coordinating the planning process efforts for legislative initiatives.
  • Provide customer service and other general legislative support to all MMB customers as needed.
  • Gather information and draft responses to questions and information requests from legislators and legislative staff.
  • Perform other legislative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of professional experience in public relations, government relations, or communications.

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree AND 6 months of professional experience in public relations, government relations, or communications.

Professional experience must include:

  • Experience conducting research;
  • Experience with policy analysis;
  • Experience writing reports, informational materials, and correspondence;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, sufficient to interact with all levels of employees and a variety of audiences;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and meet tight deadlines;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite products.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience specific to Minnesota's legislative process
  • Experience in organizing meetings using web-based platforms
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders
