Job description

This position is hybrid.

 

NYC Salary Range - $53,000 - $57,000 annually; compensation is commensurate to geographic location.

 

Under general supervision, performs moderately difficult processing of legal and tax documents while verifying member information and ensuring compliance with regulations. Follows and complies with UNFCU policies and procedures, and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Verify member’s taxpayer status by mailing certification forms and ensure that member records are up to date
  • Review tax documents and apply risk-based analysis process
  • Perform due diligence as required by state laws for yearly escheatment; organize funds transfer to state agencies for final payout
  • Process death claims for disbursement of funds; ensure that loans are satisfied and claims are submitted to the insurance company for disbursement; maintain monthly follow-ups on decedent accounts
  • Process restraining notices and tax levies received from any local, state or federal agency; place holds and memos on member accounts with correct corresponding codes; notify members and correspond with agencies and/or legal entities to ensure compliance
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and UNFCU’s Code of Ethics & Business Conduct

  • High School diploma and 2 years of experience in legal documentation processing (tax certification, restraining notices, tax levies, death/estate claims and unclaimed funds) in a banking or related environment
  • Knowledge of US and non-US taxpayer status
  • Understanding of legal/tax documents
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to confidentiality and disclosure documents
  • Knowledge of best practices and techniques in Legal Processing
  • Computer proficiency; strong MS Office skills
  • Strong ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Flexibility with work responsibility
  • Ability to manage relationships at all levels throughout the organization
  • Can interpret documents and make sound decisions within limits of authority
  • Strong ability to multi-task
