Foster Garvey PC, one of the Pacific Northwest’s leading law firms, is looking for a Legal Practice Assistant to join the Spokane office to primarily support attorneys in our Litigation and IP & Technology practice groups.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, enjoy teamwork, and possess strong communication skills (both written and interpersonal).  A commitment to client service, attention to detail, and proofreading proficiency are essential, as are the ability to organize, prioritize, and complete numerous tasks under time constraints.

This a full-time onsite position from our Spokane office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Occasional overtime may be necessary to accommodate client needs.

Responsibilities:

·        Draft simple pleadings and motions as well as assist in the preparation of complex pleadings, motions, and other filings.

·        File pleadings in state and federal trial courts, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Courts; keep current with changes in court rules and filing procedures.

·        Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes.

·        Organize exhibits, documents, briefs, and appendices. This includes providing clerical assistance in all phases of trial preparation (if appropriate).

·        In conjunction with Docketing, calculate and calendar court deadlines.

·        Schedule depositions and hearings, and make arrangements with court reporters, conference rooms, and travel reservations (if appropriate).

·        Prepare, proofread, format and revise correspondence and documents.

·        Assist and spearhead the coordination of notebook and binder projects.  

·        Run conflict checks (Intapp Open), as requested.

·        Prepare engagement letters and waivers, as requested, and needed.

·        Enroll attorneys in CLE courses and assist with CLE questions and recording.

·        Process timely expense reimbursements through Chrome River.

·        Coordinate travel arrangements, as requested.

·        Maintain attorney Outlook calendars.

·        Assist in reviewing and finalizing attorney pre-bills.

Skills:

·        Broad computer knowledge, skills and proficiency with Windows Operating System, Word Processing, Spreadsheets (Excel), presentations (PowerPoint), Internet (Chrome and Firefox), and other compatible and related software. Prior knowledge of iManage as well as prior experience in generating Table of Contents and Table of Authorities is a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize issues and workload as well as anticipate projects that need to be completed.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service - acts as a liaison between the attorneys and other departments of the firm.
  • Establish effective working relationships and appropriately interact with others and provide backup support as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in legal or professional services organization, or high school diploma and 5-7 years of experience in legal or professional services organization, or equivalent experience.
  • Legal secretary or paralegal certificate is preferred.

Salary Range and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $60,000-$77,000 annually; however, actual pay may vary depending on the candidate’s education, training, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. The successful candidate may be eligible for a discretionary signing bonus as well.
