Job Description
The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission’s Office of General Counsel is currently seeking a part-time Legal Intern for the Summer. The internship will be from May 22, 2023, to June 30, 2023.
Legal interns will:
* Assist with Record Retention
* Assist with Document Review
* Assist with Current Litigation
* Participate in the required Division training.
* Follow required OESC and Legal Division safety / security protocols.

Valued Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, Abilities
Knowledge of – legal principles and their application; legal research methods, the scope of Oklahoma laws, the principles of administrative law; trial and hearing procedures.
Skill and Competencies – Skill in performing independent and difficult research; in analyzing, appraising and applying legal principles, facts and precedents to difficult legal or factual problems; in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; in presenting statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically in written or oral form; in presenting, explaining, or arguing cases to administrative bodies, administrative law judges, or courts; in dictating correspondence involving the explanation of difficult legal matters.
Ability to – provide administrative support for attorneys; compose and prepare various legal documents and forms; take and transcribes dictation of confidential, technical, or legal material requiring high degree of accuracy; independently researches, locates and assembles legal materials for working files used in docketing cases; gathers agency data and documents to support various pleadings filed in different courts; develops and maintains files on research sources; various agency policies to compare with applicable statutes and rules for potential revisions.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Work is typically performed in the office setting with climate-controlled settings and exposure to noise levels determined by the office environment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms requiring periods of sitting or standing and daily use of computer and phone. It also requires the occasional use of the office machinery in accordance with safety and security protocols.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements
Must currently be enrolled in an accredited law school and have completed the equivalent of two semesters of full-time law school by May 22, 2023.
An LLI is not required for this position, but it will be considered as a factor for the position.
Special Skills/Requirements/Preferences
*Computer Skills – Employee must be capable of proficiently using OESC’s standard software (Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Teams), and the Internet, as well as proficiency to learn other software as needed.
Further training will be provided for use of internal software needed for day-to-day performance.
*Employee must be capable of lifting, carrying and moving objects of up to 25 pounds.
