What You'll Do:The Legal Fellow is involved in all aspects of the An American Online Travel Company brand's legal matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property, litigation threat assessment and management, internet law, consumer marketing law, international legal issues, regulatory matters and compliance, and other emerging issues. You will act as an extension of the broader Legal team and be expected to build and maintain your own relationships to foster cross-functional trust and productivity. Examples of responsibilities in
Clude:
- Drafting and negotiating agreements with partners and vendors, including non-disclosure, master services, content license, data processing, partnership and software licensing agreements for An American Online Travel Company and its affiliate companies (“An American Online Travel Company Group”). As they gain experience, Legal Fellows are expected to proactively take assignments from existing intake channels.
- Managing the An American Online Travel Company Group's responses to copyright notice and takedown requests and tracking the statuses of a high volume of copyright complaints.
- Drafting and tracking intellectual property enforcement actions (such as cease-and-desist letters) worldwide.
- Assisting in-house and external intellectual property counsel with compiling metrics, evidence of use, and administrative paperwork for international trademark portfolio maintenance.
- Assisting with the management of An American Online Travel Company Group contract templates, including reviewing and updating to comply with changes in law or business practices.
- Making occasional updates to terms of use and privacy policies for the An American Online Travel Company Group.
- Conducting and communicating the findings from legal research projects on commercial, intellectual property, marketing and consumer protection matters.
- Assistance with locating, organizing and managing contracts.
- Assistance with litigation and regulatory filings, domestically and internationally.
- Support for multiple business units, including but not limited to: procurement, marketing, product and sales across all An American Online Travel Company brand verticals.
What we are looking for:
- Candidates must be 2024 law school graduates (and planning to take a U.S. state bar exam in the summer of 2024). Please do not apply if you have already graduated from law school. Must be willing and able to work from An American Online Travel Company's Needham, MA headquarters at least several days per month.
- Resume and transcript required; cover letter strongly recommended.
- Drive and ability to proactively take on problem-solving, acute tasks and larger projects and see all matters through to completion.
- Resourcefulness and creativity while drafting, communicating, and completing projects when faced with novel problems and situations without obvious solutions.
- Strong reading comprehension and professional writing skills (including grammar and email etiquette) required.
- Candidates with a noted interest in commercial contracts, intellectual property, cyberlaw, litigation, digital media and advertising, and/or marketing law.
- Excellent grades, relevant clinic and internship experience and/or law journal experience preferred.
- Ability and desire to proactively build relationships with internal clients and other members of the Legal team both virtually and in person.
