Job description

Director designs, facilitates, and oversees Summer Day Camp enrichment activities along with program counselors for the Leddy Park Arena Camps. The Leddy Camp Director will have the responsibility of supervising and mentoring all camp staff at the arena as well as supervision of camp participants. This position will develop and lead program activities, which includes: ice skating, swimming, arts and crafts, recreational games, athletic activities, music, nature walks, and team building.
Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade: $19.34 - $22.34 Hourly

  • Available by June 14 (at the latest) through August 16.
  • Lead team of site-specific staff in the planning and implementation of engaging, constructive, and enjoyable activities for participants.
  • Organize and instruct activities.
  • Coordinating camp groups.
  • Assessing and making decisions in emergency situations.
  • Utilizing computer programs to ensure access to all camper paperwork as needed.
  • Assisting in equipment management and making timely requests for materials.
  • Creating positive interactions with parents and handling day-off communications regarding absences, schedule changes, camper behavior, and camper personal items
  • Participate, if able, in skating programming portion of camp.
  • Plan and coordinate day to day operations for camp program, including scheduling. Maintain all necessary weekly records ensuring compliance with record-keeping, enrollment of program participants, incident reporting, and risk management. Supervise counselors.
  • Support quality dynamic programming and effective teamwork between staff by reinforcing a positive and cohesive work environment, creativity, and adherence to BPRW policies and core values.
  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for a diverse group of participants. Provide excellent customer service to parents, guardians, and caregivers through on- going communication and program updates.
  • Along with program counselors, supports the supervision, engagement, and well-being of participants on-site, as well as while on field trips.
  • Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies, incidents, or accidents to supervisor.
  • Required to be on site before the program starts for set up and preparation as well as clean up at the end of the day.
  • Communicating updates and insights directly to Supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required. Administer proper First Aid as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation process.
  • Position may require operation of City vehicle and/or personal vehicle to conduct City business.
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation required. College coursework in Education, Childhood Development, Family Studies or Recreation Management preferred.
  • Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid driver's license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City's vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs. Ability to deal effectively with discipline problems, co-workers and supervisors. Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities. Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
  • A cooperative attitude and a team player.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, a desire to work with children and creativity.
  • Upon conditional offer of employment candidate must successfully complete background investigation.
