Job Description:

Farmingdale State College invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time Lecturer for an Art History position. There is no Art History major at FSC and the Visual Communications Department (which is NASAD accredited) within the School of Business, assigns Art History courses. Classes are open to students across the campus and are required by Visual Communications and other majors.  

The program is seeking a Lecturer with a solid art history background. The faculty member is expected to teach (15 contact hours per semester) classes (daytime and evening) across multiple formats, including hybrid and online classes as well as traditional face-to-face classes. The Art History courses that are currently offered include: Art History Survey Courses (Ancient to Medieval; Renaissance to Modern/Contemporary), Global Art History, Mesoamerican Art History, American Art History, History of Graphic Design, Contemporary Art History, and History of Interaction Design.  

Lecturers are responsible for teaching 15 contact hours per semester, and service to the Department and the School, including activities such as advising students and serving on departmental committees. The individual hired for this position may also be involved with assisting with coordination of departmental level assessment for courses in the Arts and Humanities.  

Candidates who are invited for interviews will be asked to present a 20-30 minute teaching demonstration and lecture on an art history topic related to one of the course content areas currently taught within the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of interest and competence in teaching.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or higher (MA, MFA, MS, Doctorate) in Art History or closely related field.   

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One or more years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching online and hybrid courses.


Additional Information:

This is a 10-month UUP faculty position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, November 17, 2023, and ending Friday, December 1, 2023, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $68,400 Total Compensation.
