TheDepartment of Economics at the University of New Mexico invites applicationsfor a full-time, 9-month continuing appointment at the rank of Lecturer III tobegin August 1, 2024. The position is renewable through annual review andentails a teaching load with a service component and no expectation ofresearch/scholarly activities.
The department seeks to hire an individual committed toteaching excellence and inclusion, who is expected to teach large introductoryeconomics classes and other undergraduate courses based on program needs andthe successful candidate's expertise and interests. In addition, the successful candidate will bea fully integrated member of the faculty, contributing to the quality and growthof the undergraduate program, including participating in curriculumdevelopment, program assessment, student recruitment and mentorship, service atthe department and university level, and cultivation of an inclusive anddiverse undergraduate community.
Lecturers are an integral part of the department withopportunities for promotion to higher ranks within the track (Senior Lecturer,Principal Lecturer), longer term contracts, and eligibility for paid academicleave. Minimum Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Economics or related field completed by start date of appointment (August 1, 2024)
2. Experience teaching economics or a related subject
PreferredQualifications:
1. Demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching undergraduates from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
2. Ability to teach across different instruction modalities and class sizes, with a focus on large-enrollment introductory courses
3. Ability to help grow and deliver a high-quality undergraduate program through course and curriculum development
4. Ability to make a positive contribution to the undergraduate program in terms of community building and active student engagement outside of the classroom
5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success working with broadly diverse communities
6. Enthusiasm for proactively engaging in faculty meetings and decision-making processes
