PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a Lecturer II in Criminal Justice.  We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serve approximately 2200 students.  Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation.  The city of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ full time and part-time faculty members.  We are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associate degrees, selected Bachelor's degrees, Career Technical Education certificate programs, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personal enrichment courses.  UNM-Gallup serves multiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding our programs, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunities while hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty.  Lecturers at UNM-G have career advancement opportunities that are outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and faculty union collective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will generally be expected to teach a 27-credit hour course load, annually, in the area of Criminal justice, maintain an active service record (as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate in Division meetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement.  In addition, the selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactively managing bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field or a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice (or related field) plus five years of experience in a closely related occupation
  • Five years of successful experience in an occupation related to Criminal Justice (i.e., Law Enforcement, Crime Scene Investigation, Corrections, Legal/Paralegal professions)
  • Three years documented teaching or training experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstration of successful course development and delivery
  • Certified or past-certified law enforcement with at least three years' experience
  • Department of Public Safety (or similar) instructor certification in area of concentration
  • Experience working with a broadly diverse student population
  • Demonstrated commitment to first generation college students and student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
