CHILDREN AND FAMILIES FIRST
LEARNING TOGETHER FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM
Title: Learning Together Family Literacy (LT) Teacher
Supervisor: LT Program Director
I. General Description
The LT Teacher is responsible for the planning and organization needed to operate and maintain the LT children's programs, which includes providing a high quality environment in which each child achieves the highest level of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual competence.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Curriculum
1. Organize and use space, materials, and routines to construct an interesting, secure and enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning.
2. Develop and implement an integrated program of activities, experiences and opportunities, which contributes to the growth and development of each child, and are appropriate to the developmental levels of the children being served.
3. Incorporate, selected children's books ("Book of the Month") into lesson planning, including one activity a month to be featured during Parent And Child Together (PACT) Time.
4. Implement the Raising-A-Reader® program, a proven and evidence-based family engagement and early literacy program for children ages 0-8 that helps families develop, practice, and maintain the home-based literacy routines necessary for school success.
5. Use available community resources and age appropriate field trips to enrich the children's experience in the classroom.
6. Ensure that the program respects and reflects the diverse backgrounds and learning styles of each child.
B. Teacher-Child Interaction
1. Be respectful of all child participants and their family values.
2. Maintain effective communication with children that fosters physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
3. Use questioning, probing, and problem solving as interactions that promote learning.
4. Interact with children on their eye level using a voice that is pleasant and encouraging.
5. Provide opportunities for children to understand, acquire, and use verbal and non-verbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings.
6. Participate with children in small and large groups, as well as individually.
7. Use conflict resolution techniques that are appropriate for the development
level of the child.
8. Provide for smooth transition from one activity to another, without
requiring the children to wait.
9. Assist children with self-care and hygiene activities.
C. Adult-Adult Interaction
1. Be respectful of all staff and adult participants, their values and opinions.
2. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers through open communication, sharing resources and supporting professional development.
3. Develop supportive relationships with parents by respecting their child-rearing values and by sharing information about the ages and stages of children's development to improve their understanding of their own children.
4. When needed, participate in the facilitation of Parent Time activities, in addition to PACT Time.
5. Maintain a cooperative atmosphere in the workplace by exhibiting a pleasant and cooperative attitude.
D. Observation & Assessment
  1. Observe and assess each child, with documentation.

  1. File all observation and record notes, including anecdotes and success stories,

  1. Submit updates quarterly to the LT Director

E. Parent Involvement
1. Communicate the activities of the program to parents on a regular basis (i.e. newsletter, activity calendar, bulletin board, etc.)
2. Introduce parents to the classroom and any routines.
3. Communicate with parents the expectation of and opportunities for their positive involvement in the program.
5. Maintain a professional relationship with parents.
F. Program Management
1. Use all available resources to ensure an effective operation of the classroom.
2. Immediately report all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to LT Program Director.
3. Write and submit reports accurately and on time.
4. Submit time, via Dayforce, weekly by Friday morning.
5. Request supplies and equipment when needed, in writing (email or supply request form) and at least one week in advance.
7. Maintain an orderly classroom.
8. Report all accidents immediately to Director using the Incident Report
Form.
9. Attend all required meetings, including professional development trainings.
G. Professionalism
1. When implementing strategies for meeting the goals of the program, make decisions based on knowledge of child development theories and appropriate practices.
2. Actively pursue appropriate professional development opportunities, which increase knowledge and skills, by actively participating in staff development programs and by successfully completing early childhood education courses when appropriate.
H. Essential Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED is mandatory; experience with early childhood education is preferred.

2. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, children,
parents, coworkers, and volunteers.
  1. Perform, effectively, the duties required for the job including, verbal ability to communicate, auditory capacity to respond to children and adults, visual ability to complete written assignments, and physical ability to complete assignments given accommodations as required by law.

III. Americans with Disability and Workers' Compensation Specifications
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, peripheral depth and the ability to adjust focus
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
