Salary range: $16.00 per hour

Reports to: K-12 Learning and Family Engagement Manager


The Neon Museum is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and STEAM-loving part-time educator to play a critical role in delivering high-quality educational experiences for K-12 students, teachers, and families. 


Summary of Position

This position will assist the Learning Department in delivering the field trip program by following a pre-written curriculum of multiple subjects relating to Las Vegas History, Science and the Arts by utilizing the museum's collection in The Neon Boneyard. A STEAM Educator not only encourages exploration and discovery but is also instrumental in creating a safe and inclusive environment for students to learn. The ideal candidate will be passionate about learning in informal environments, engaging and approachable, and interested in STEAM. The role typically works weekday mornings and at least one Saturday morning per month depending on programmatic needs.

Responsibilities

Assist in delivering the school field trip program on-site at The Neon Museum. 

Assist in delivering the STEAM Saturday family event

Communicate safety rules of the museum and oversee groups visiting in the museum.

Facilitate lesson plans and other educational resources alongside the K-12 Learning and Family Engagement Manager.

Assist with set-up and tear down of the student and family educational program and activities. 

Assist with the administration of educational programs.

Organize and inventory educational resources and materials. 

Follow departmental policies and procedures.


Minimum Professional Experience

Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in a learning environment required. 

Background in Education, Museum Studies, History, Art History, or Architecture.


Desired Skill Set

Informal or formal teaching experience highly desired.

Knowledge of the Las Vegas area and history 

Understand the CCSD school system, along with an understanding of the Nevada Academic Content Standards

Must be comfortable with public speaking/speaking to groups.

Excellent customer service skills and ability to work confidently with youth, family, and educator audiences. 

Must have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, and be able to adapt to different audiences.

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within quickly changing priorities with enthusiasm and good humor. 


Physical Requirements 

Regular and consistent attendance.

Ability to use a computer and office equipment.

Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 3 hours without rest.

Ability to retain focus despite numerous interruptions during the day.

Ability to work weekends as required.

Ability to work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.

Ability to work outdoors in seasonal desert temperatures.

Ability to travel to other organizational sites (full clean driving license and access to a car is required).
