The Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator will manage and administer Vance-Granville Community College's (VGCC) Learning Management System, Moodle, while working with all academic units to assist in developing and implementing the online components of curriculum and continuing education courses.
The LMS Administrator position will report to the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. This role will implement VGCC's online instructional tools, provide faculty and student support, liaise with LMS vendors, and help facilitate faculty development for new initiatives to promote student learning, equity, and success.
This position is hybrid, with both remote and on-campus requirements. This position is assigned to the VGCC Main Campus in Henderson, NC; although, some travel to other counties in the college's service area is possible. This position is eligible for up to of four (4) days per week of telework, depending on the person's skill level and experience.

Essential Duties
- Manage and administer VGCC's LMS environment, including but not limited to performing system updates and maintenance, creating and copying courses, automating processes, troubleshooting issues, running user enrollment and creation processes, third-party software integrations, and supporting students, faculty, and staff.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations and logistical planning for an effective and responsive system that meets the needs of our users with minimal service interruptions.
- Clone courses and create new course shells to support course offerings, ensure courses open and close at designated dates and times, back-up courses and adhere to defined retention schedules, and ensure system storage limits are adequately maintained.
- Generate Census Reports and other reports as needed.
- Assist the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and Instructional Designer as needed to support curriculum/continuing education programs and courses.
- Maintain a procedure manual for operating the LMS and related services. Work closely with colleagues to test, document, demonstrate, and recommend current learning technologies, tools, and other applications for effective course development and delivery.
- Engage with faculty on course development to incorporate learning technologies in all modalities. Partner with Academic Deans, Department Chairs, and Program Heads regarding faculty development, online course audits, and curricular assessment.
- Help design and deliver professional development for faculty and staff using adopted technologies and course delivery tools through the Center for Teaching and Learning. Develop assistive documentation and videos for students, faculty, and staff using VGCC's LMS and other digital technologies.
- Communicate regularly with the North Carolina Community College System Distance Learning office and eLearning Technology vendors for effective service delivery.
- Participate in the strategic planning process for the Center for Teaching and Learning and Distance Education areas, assist the Vice President of Institutional Research and Technology and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning in developing impactful distance education policies and procedures, and maintain documents and reports that support VGCC's compliance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Southern Regional Board of Education (SREB), and any other federal, state, and local compliance requirements.
- Participate in professional development activities and required employee training.
- Promote a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence, student learning, and effective teaching practices.
- Support outreach, awareness, marketing, and collaboration by participating on assigned College committees; in local, state, and professional organizations, and representing the College at professional conferences and workshops.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required:
- Associate's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and experience in the following areas:
- Learning Management System, preferably Moodle.
- Collaboration and Conferencing tools such as Big Blue Button, Webex, MS Teams and/or Zoom.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, information systems, instructional design, instructional technology.
- Three years of experience in effectively managing and maintaining a Learning Management System, either Moodle or Blackboard.
- Experience with supporting online learning environments.
- Proven ability to develop instructional applications that are based on pedagogically sound principles and practices.
- Higher education faculty and student development experience.
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in designing courses.
- Knowledge of ADA, QM Standards, ACUE Standards, and Universal Design best practices in the classroom.
- Knowledge of copyright, fair use, and appropriate use of digital media in online learning environments.
