Job description

Learning, Design, and Innovation Director
Purpose Statement
The job of Learning, Design, and Innovation Director is to develop and facilitate programs, services, and systems
designed to provide high-quality learning opportunities for students that align with the mission, vision, and goals of
the district; develop and implement programs and learning opportunities for educators and staff; provide information
and serve as a resource to others; continually planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining
programs and services that meet established guidelines.
12 month position
This job reports to Suprintendent
Other Functions
• Operationalize a cohesive district PK-14 vision for teaching and learning.
• Formalize BPS base competencies for each employee category and facilitate the process of achievement of
current and future staff in realizing those competencies.
• Analyze results from multiple measures of student achievement for evaluating district instructional effectiveness,
developing programs toward higher achievement, ensuring graduates are choice ready, and complying with
established requirements and guidelines.
• Oversee duties related to school improvement within the accreditation process, ensuring alignment of school
improvement plans with the district strategic plan and goals.
• Coordinate district data reviews and build capacity in teams' use of data for systems improvement.
• Coordinate stakeholder input on topics related to teaching and learning, ensuring a wide range of stakeholders
are represented and informed.
• Serve as a resource in informing stakeholders and policy makers about district programs, professional learning
of district staff and of student achievement.
• Facilitate an instructional resources review cycle and administer the instructional resource request process.
• Facilitate the work of staff responsible for the development of standards-based education (teaching and learning
practices, alignment, proficiency scales, progress monitoring/reporting, and student goal setting) to advance
student achievement.
• Monitor the financial activities of funds assigned to LDI department. Assist in building annual budgets to support
the work of LDI.
• Plan, organize, implement and oversee federal programs as assigned.
• Prepare compliance reports required by local, state, and federal agencies.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of LDI staff the evaluations shall be conducted in accord with existing
statutes.
• Develop and manage projects from initiation to implementation through program evaluation.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in
ordeSr to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the
functions of the job include: developing and administering budgets; operating standard office equipment including
utilizing pertinent software applications; planning and managing multiple projects; preparing and maintaining accurate
records; and training, developing and supervising staff.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write
technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues
and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the
job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; current trends and practices in assigned area;
education code; principles of employee development and management; project development, goal attainment and
time management; accounting/bookkeeping principles; and principles of conflict resolution.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate,
and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently
work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and
operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity
of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related
equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with
data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific
ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing
work priorities; dealing with frequent and sustained interruptions; developing and maintaining positive working
relationships; facilitating communication between persons with divergent positions; implementing change;
maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; providing direction and leadership; and setting priorities.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives;
managing major organizational components; supervising the use of funds for multiple departments. Utilization of
significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual
opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some
lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20%
walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant teaching experience; Administration experience preferred but
not required; Experience providing professional development to adult learners; Extensive
knowledge of instructional design methodologies and standards writing/development;
Experience developing and managing projects from inception to completion
Education: Masters degree in job-related area.
