THE POSITION

The Lead Unix Systems Engineer will serve on the Joint Staff Support Center (JSSC) Information Technology Support Services (JSSC-ITSS) contract at the Pentagon, Arlington, VA. Your primary responsibility will be providing expert technical support for the JSSC's Global Management Center (GMC) IT infrastructure. This includes overseeing production, continuity, and testing environments crucial for delivering essential Command and Control (C2) tools to the JSSC and its customers. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring smooth operations and optimizing system performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Expert System Administration: Take charge of all system administration activities, including account management, resource monitoring, system log auditing, backup and recovery operations, software patching, hardware configuration, and security compliance to ensure smooth operations.
  2. Network Infrastructure Establishment: Collaborate with Network Engineers to analyze network requirements and contribute to the development of enterprise-wide networking infrastructure. Perform system backups and restorations to guarantee data availability and compliance with regulatory directives.
  3. Architectural Design: Design comprehensive architecture encompassing software, hardware, and communication systems to meet current and future cross-functional requirements. Ensure compatibility and compliance with industry standards such as OSI and ISO models, fostering seamless integration across various applications.
  4. Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Proactively troubleshoot incidents related to UNIX systems and other tools. Document incidents meticulously and develop strategies, policies, and procedures for system maintenance and optimization.
  5. Method Development and System Upgrades: Spearhead the development of methods and evaluation criteria to achieve contract objectives. Anticipate customer requirements and oversee system upgrades to enhance performance and functionality.
  6. Performance Monitoring and Cybersecurity Support: Conduct regular performance monitoring and provide support as part of a cohesive team. Collaborate on cybersecurity and IA policy efforts to bolster the security posture of supported systems and tools.
  7. Software Evaluation and Recommendations: Evaluate software options and recommend solutions to lower-level staff. Provide expertise in patch management, version control, and administrative systems to ensure prompt resolution of issues.
  8. Customer Interaction and Technical Support: Interact with customers and contract leadership to address complex technical issues. Foster partnerships to enhance the operating environment while maintaining robust cybersecurity practices.
  9. Compliance and Professional Development: Exercise sound judgment and adhere to safety, security, and compliance protocols. Stay updated on training requirements, certifications, and other professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, AND;
  • Minimum Active Top-Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility, AND;
  • DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT-II) Certification CompTIA Security+CE
  • 10 years of experience in networking infrastructure or and IT technical discipline such as providing UNIX system administration support in network and software development environments ensure mission success in support of DoD unclassified/classified networking environments
