Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Assisting the unit manager in the supervision and training of treatment technicians/specialists in the designated living unit. Assisting the Unit manager in ensuring staffing, the safety of residents, and physical conditions meet state and licensing regulations. Assisting the Unit Manager with the overall behavior management for residents and working within the unit’s budget. Also, assist the Unit Manager with reporting and documenting youth’s progress: attending court hearings, and serving as a contact person with families and community partners regarding clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Unit Responsibilities
- Ensure Trauma-Informed Care principles are modeled and practiced by staff members as a model for behavior management of the unit in collaboration with the Therapist, Unit Manager, and Case Manager.
- Responsible for all medication administration procedures being followed consistently during a shift by staff members.
- Responsible for all reporting procedures being followed during a shift by staff members.
- Responsible that all Nonviolent Crisis Intervention practices are followed including the use of restraint or seclusion practices.
- Responsible for facilitating consistent communication between staff on the same shifts and staff on other shifts. This includes but is not limited to unit log entries, point sheet documentation, and verbal information sharing.
Supervision Responsibilities
- Responsible for assisting in the formation of a cohesive team that is consistent with policies, discipline, and recognition
- Seek and maintain a positive approach to treatment
- Assist in staff evaluation by providing feedback to the Unit Manager regarding the youth care staff.
- Assist the Unit Manager in training the treatment technicians by monitoring, educating, and role-modeling appropriate youth care skills for the youth care workers.
- Ensure our Trauma-Informed Care philosophy is implemented and followed.
Responsibilities to Residents
- Attend evaluation conferences and take part in unit intakes and discharges as requested.
- Coordinate with the Therapists, Unit Manager, and Treatment Technician/Specialist the implementation of the resident’s treatment plan.
- Work with each resident to develop improved skills to help them be successful in their home community.
- Facilitate skill-building groups for the residents.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field, or special education with certification for emotional disturbance or learning disabilities and experience that is specifically related to the client population being served is preferred.
- Have at least two years of experience in public or private institutional child care for the type of population being served.
