Job description

Lead Speech Language Pathologist
JOB GOAL
Assist the Supervisor in providing department oversight and support the speech-language therapy staff with assessing and treating students' speech and language skills; planning and implementing appropriate treatment to meet individual student goals and objectives; provide recommendations for district speech-language program development, and student placement; serve as liaison to school-based speech-Language Pathologists; assess primarily preschool student evaluations countywide.
QUALIFICATIONS
Holds a valid Tennessee School Services Provider license, endorsement in Special Education Speech/Language K-12 (498), and meets health and physical requirements
REPORTS TO Exceptional Education Supervisor
FLSA STATUS Exempt
SCHEDULE 200 Day
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Coordinates Monthly Speech Language Pathology Professional Learning Communities
  2. Maintains inventory of Speech-Language Pathology Assessment Protocols
  3. Communicate with area Graduate Schools regarding placement of Speech-Language Pathology interns
  4. Ensures that Speech Language Therapists are provided with field-specific Professional Development Opportunities
  5. Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals, etc.) to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines
  6. Complies with State Standards and District Policies in the processes of referral, screening, and placement
  7. Follows district procedures for screening and/or referring students in need of a speech and/or language evaluation
  8. Participates in the building committees (e.g. Professional Learning Communities, Student Support Team, Data Team) to report screening and/or evaluation referral information
  9. Chooses and completes comprehensive and appropriate speech and/or language evaluations according to State Standards and District Guidelines
  10. Provides a complete diagnostic summary report including a summary of formal and informal evaluation information, educational relevance, and eligibility recommendation(s) based on state guidelines
  11. Completes IEP paperwork in a timely and accurate manner following state and district guidelines
  12. Attends and leads Individualized Education Plan meetings, recommending and planning for program services based on student speech, language, or communication data
  13. When appropriate, make referrals for further evaluation by other district assessment specialists

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This job may require lifting or carrying of objects up to fifty (50) pounds, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows: pushing and/or pulling, stooping and/or kneeling, reaching and/or handling, talking, hearing, seeing, and climbing.
