Job description

Perform various duties involved in safeguarding Spaulding Cape Cod property against fire, theft, and illegal entry, monitor entrances and exits as directed, patrol areas within the site, check for fire and safety hazards, combat fires, and direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during emergency periods. Ensure a safe and secure environment; provide protective service and response for protection of the people and property of the Hospital; is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of Department personnel. As a team lead, responsible for assisting with the orientation, training, and performance of line staff; needs above average ability in the areas of leadership, training, operational systems, and investigations.

  • Entrances and exits are monitored for unauthorized or unlawful entry.
  • Hospital is patrolled, ensuring compliance with safety and fire standards.
  • Security CCTV is monitored as required and security is informed of any suspicious activity.
  • Alarms are responded to and investigated per department guidelines.
  • Periodic inspection tours are conducted to ensure the facility has not been tampered with, continually watches for irregularities per security protocols.
  • Safe keeping process is used with patient valuables when requested.
  • Daily reports are developed and submitted per established guidelines.
  • Emergency situations are controlled, persons removed from danger, evidence protected, and pedestrian/vehicular traffic managed safely per established guidelines.
  • Violent patient restraint assistance provided to staff to maintain safety for the patient and health care team.
  • Disaster control and fire drill assistance is conducted per security guidelines.
  • Security office and front desk inquiries are responded to efficiently and per department guidelines.
  • Hospital parking lot is monitored, and parking tickets are issued to cars parked in violation of hospital administration regulations.
  • Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.

Additional Responsibilities for Lead Security Officer role
  • Assist manager with responsibility for the day-to-day operations; absent a manager will assume responsible charge position.
  • Assign personnel to their daily scheduled duties; review all pass-ons, logs, journals, forms, and reports since last tour of duty to ensure continuity of services and provide appropriate follow-up;
  • Monitor line staff performance ensuring adherence to Department /Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Notifies Department/Hospital Manager, Director of any special occurrences (i.e. any failure of persons, equipment, policy, or procedure disruptive to normal business or having potential for negative consequence or publicity).
  • Facilitates shift training of personnel. On Job Training and In-Service training of personnel and promotes their growth and development. Documents personnel training records and track completion, certification, re-certification, and general compliance standards are updated as needed.
  • Investigates thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents; notifies appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential/real civil or criminal misconduct; participates in subsequent court proceedings as required.
  • Prepares and submits written reports completely and accurately; makes notations in log of all incidents; keeps Manager informed.

Education/Degree
Required
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Graduation from a Police Academy would waive the experience requirements.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related discipline.

Experience
Required
  • Minimum of one year paid, full-time experience in security/law enforcement or its equivalent.

Preferred
  • 1-3 years of lead/supervisory experience in related field
  • Experience in hospital, security/police, military, emergency medical or customer service.
  • Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

Required
  • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.

  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.
  • Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.
  • Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.
  • High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
  • Attention to detail.
