Job Summary
The Lead Plant Operator, reporting to the plant supervisor, oversees plant technicians and operators. Acts as a mentor to Plant Operator and technicians; provides guidance, as necessary. Natural Gas Midstream Plant, pipeline and associated auxiliary equipment scheduling and coordination. The incumbent's primary responsibility involves the monitoring, operation, and maintenance of plant, associated equipment and fluids management. Must meet the residency requirement of 30 miles or 45 minutes from the assigned work location.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedules the work to be done during the annual outage. Orders materials needed and coordinates with contractors for the work being performed.
- Schedules required routine maintenance items that are required within the PSM program.
- Schedules contractors for various plant repairs and/or maintenance items.
- Orders materials and parts as needed for plant operation.
- Works with I&C and M&R techs to ensure their needs are met to maintain their equipment.
- Works with the PSM coordinator to ensure compliance.
- Assists the maintenance department with troubleshooting, scheduling, and general repairs.
- Writes and reviews operational procedures.
- Approves employees' timesheets and expense reports.
- Oversees the operator training program.
- Perform employee performance reviews.
- Assist the plant supervisor as needed.
- Supervise plant technicians and operators.
- Use operational expertise to recommend equipment and process changes to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety. Work with the engineering group.
- Organize maintenance activities when maintenance personnel are unavailable.
- Assists with budgeting as needed.
- Uses operational expertise to recommend equipment and process changes to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
- Organizes maintenance and plant operation activities.
- Mentors and guides Plant Operators and technicians.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Must have a strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrate a basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics. Must be able to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations.
- Above-average knowledge and /or experience in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Must demonstrate basic personal computer (PC) skills, including use of a handheld computer.
- Above-average ability to understand company policies and procedures.
- Above-average ability and physical stamina when lifting, bending, climbing, pushing, and pulling tools and equipment while accomplishing tasks.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required. One to two years of technical training or two years of experience in operating natural gas pipeline systems is preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of recent process control and/or maintenance experience.
