Job description

Job Summary
The Lead Pharmacy Technician will be responsible to ensure the prompt, accurate, and effective delivery of medication and services to patients. This position
will assist in overseeing the operations in the department, and will be a valuable administrator for technician workflow.
Essential Functions
• Assists in the preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications and preparation and labeling of sterile products under a pharmacist supervision.
• Obtains medication and allergy histories for patients that will be admitted to the hospital by interviewing patients, family members, hospital,
physician offices if applicable, and other facility and retail pharmacy records and documents in system.
• Responsible for inventory management and retrieves and reviews inventory and returned medications, assessing expiration date, product integrity,
and labeling appropriateness prior to placing in stock.
• Responds in a timely manner to meet the standards established for all STAT medication requests.
• Triages phone calls and pharmacy requests.
• Provides medications and supplies to the various automated dispensing equipment, utilizes medication packaging machines, and monitors
equipment required for medication dispensing for continued safe functioning, if applicable. Trouble shoots and maintains these devices and verifies
expiration dates.
• Participates in initiatives to promote quality and leads changes to provide safe, efficient workflows. Troubleshoots issues and barriers to success with
leadership.
• Communicates medication issues and concerns and pharmacy related information and updates with staff and other departments.
• Mentors and trains assigned staff, including but not limited to students, new hires, and employees learning new roles.
• Assists with operational gaps and changes in staffing and provides coverage when needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education

Experience
  • Revelvant experience required. Prefer candidates with hospital experience, worked closely with the pharmacy manager/supervisor in implementing projects, quality initiatives, staff training; and has other leadership skills/experiences.

Certification and Licensure
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) (must be obtained within 6 months of hire date)
