Job description

SUMMARY:

Coordinate and participate in complex technical activities associated with the operation of medical imaging equipment in Radiology, CT, and MRI. Coordinate activities in the department ensuring accuracy and completeness of work, proper staffing, cross-training of employees, and adherence to established Radiology, Medical Clinic of Houston, and the Code of Conduct policies and procedures. Provide excellent customer service and positive outcomes during conflict resolution.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs imaging procedures in CT and MRI.
  • Manage patient workflow for CT and MRI patients.
  • Plan, schedule, and assign daily work requirements for CT and MRI, ensuring proper distribution and assignment of personnel to complete all tasks.
  • Coordinate the the activities in CT and MRI to ensure ACR and TDH compliance.
  • Coordinate the daily cleaning, periodical preventive maintenance of the equipment in CT and MRI.
  • Monitor Synapse RIS and EPIC for all scheduled procedures; obtain procedure protocols from radiologist, and review insurance pre-certification requirements before a procedure is performed.
  • Consult with supervisor or manager for problem solving and/or changes in procedures.
  • Ensure customer service is provided in a timely manner.
  • Perform periodical evaluation and assist with developing, reviewing, and updating of CT and MRI protocols and procedures, under the direction of the Radiologists, to determine quality assurance and/or additional projections requirements.
  • Track and monitor no-show and cancellation patients in CT and MRI.
  • Maintain records of repeat rates, compile statistical reports and analysis related to individual performance and productivity.
  • Maintain a professional and clean environment for the CT and MRI Department at all times.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure all employees are properly trained on CT radiation doses and follow MRI safety polices.
  • Ensure the CT and MRI departments comply with all State and Federal regulations, as applicable to the areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure all procedures in MRI and CT are interpreted in a timely manner.
  • Reports incidents in a timely manner and within 24 hours.
  • Participate in various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, evaluating performance, and professional staff development.
  • Adheres to the Radiology and Clinic Policy and Procedures and the Code of Conduct.
  • Assist the Supervisor and Manager in overseeing the reception and waiting room areas to ensure customer service is provided in a timely manner.
  • Perform the quarterly Medicare audit.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate late add-on patients.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Coordinate and work closely with information systems personnel to investigate and resolve RIS, PACS, and Epic related issues.

Specific Areas of Responsibilities

Intradepartment

  • Participates in Clinic committees, provides input and ideas to improve Clinic services and operations
  • Ensures adequate supplies are ordered and maintains par level products in Radiology.
  • Develops a working relationship with Physicians, all Clinic personnel, and Managers to ensure overall Clinic standards are met.


CT and MRI

  • Ensures CT and MRI are ACR compliance.
  • Effectively communicates with MCH Physicians, Radiologists, and Clinical personnel as it relates to delivering CT and MRI services.
  • Reviews, assesses, and recommends new CT and/or MRI imaging services for the Clinic.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance is performed on the scanners and power injectors in CT and MRI.
  • Coordinates and develops schedules for CT and MRI technologist.

Radiologists

  • Act as the liason and maintain an open line of communication between the Radiologists and staff.
  • Meets periodically with Radiologists, Supervisor and Manager to improve Radiology processes, maximize efficencies, and develop new procedures.
  • Communicates all potential interruptions of Radiology services and submits action plans to Manager and Radiologists.

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:


Education, Experience, and Knowledge

  • Successful completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program and American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry. Must posses MRI and CT certifications.
  • Three years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist is required if the position is in a specialty imaging principle. Previous team leader or supervisory experience is also required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service and customer satisfaction skills.
  • Able to effectively coordinate multiple projects.
  • Must be able to train others.
  • Must be knowledgeable in all Radiology procedures and scheduling on NextGen.
  • Experience in starting IVs and contrast injections.
  • Uses analytical skills for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Excellent computer skills – Knowledge with EPIC and Fuji RIS.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have legible penmanship.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, and telephone etiquette.
  • Must be able to stand and position and/or assist in lifting patients onto exam tables.
  • Must be able to escort patients throughout the clinic.
  • Must be able to view software applications and images on monitors.
  • Must be able to reach up to 6 feet and bend to floor level to pull or file film jackets.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
