Job Summary
Works in a highly collaborative team environment serving in a consulting role for internal and external clients, managing with direction and support from department leadership the design, development, implementation, and execution of communication and Media Relations initiatives / plans, including all related materials. Serves as a strategic communications consultant assisting clients in achieving business objectives (volume goals, increased penetration in service areas, etc.). Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of communication and Media Relations plans, including managing a variety of stakeholders throughout the process. Ability to coordinate all steps of the complex communications and Media Relations process.
Essential Functions
  • Serves in a consulting role with key clients, translating business objectives into communications strategies, providing counsel and guidance. Executes and implements Corewell Health Media Relations plans, including the development of materials for clients.
  • Responsible for cultivating strong relationships with clients. Anticipates client needs, identify opportunities and solutions.
  • Develops monitoring and tracking systems to determine the effectiveness of Media Relations plans.
  • Manages timelines and budgets as appropriate for department, product, and/or service line.
  • Works with the appropriate leaders to coordinate resources responsible for execution of communications tactics. Ensures that System standards are followed.
  • Coordinates with the appropriate staff to manage the content related to the Corewell Health newsroom.
  • Works closely with System Strategic Planning and Development to review market share, patient volume, and other research information to determine communications needs.
  • Supports system branding and image initiatives.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skills/knowledge/abilities typically gained through 10+ years of related experience.

Preferred:
  • Proven experience in health care Media Relations and communications for a large health care system.
  • Knowledge of the business of health care and a clinical understanding of health care including topics such as value-based care, health policy, health equity, care models and operations.
  • Experience working with the Detroit media market and statewide/national media including trade publications, health care and non-health care with established Media Relationships.
  • APR (Accredited in Public Relations)
