Lead Mechanical Engineer, Cell Cathode Engineering

Tesla’s Cell Materials Manufacturing Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in structural, piping and vessel design to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – Battery Cathode materials. 

 As a Mechanical Engineer in our Cell Engineering Team, you will help lead the development and field deployment of new-to-the world chemical production processes and equipment. Your responsibilities will include designing custom equipment, piping, structural steel and the machinery necessary to produce key intermediates in the battery materials value chain.  You will participate in projects starting from the concept through design, fabrication, installation, and handover to operations teams.

• 8+ years of applicable experience
• Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical Engineering, evidence ofexceptional experience, or equivalent
• Proven knowledge of industry standard codes (i.e., ASME,BPVC, ASTM, API, NBIC, etc.)
• Software packages which may include: Autocad, COMPRESS,INSPECT, AutoPipe codes, Visual Vessel Design, PVElite, DESIGNCALCS, etc
• Three (3) or more years of experience with the design ofpressure vessels and structural steel design 
• Demonstrated experience in the execution of engineeringprojects from concept development through commissioning and ramp-up. Thisexperience should include hands-on drafting experience and illustrate theability to develop novel or otherwise custom equipment to solve uniquechallenges
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design including: structuralanalysis, equipment optimization, thermal analysis, materials of constructionanalysis , common failure mechanisms, corrosion etc. 
• A Professional Engineers license is a plus
