Job Description:
The Lead Mechanic is responsible for supervising the personnel in the shop and for all areas of the day-to-day shop operations. The Lead Mechanic reports directly to the Service Manager. The Duties of the Lead Mechanic include overseeing shop equipment performance and maintenance; tracking and expediting jobs to satisfy customers' promise dates; assessing any warranty work as required, as well as assisting customers and salesmen. The Lead Mechanic shall provide technical expertise in repairing various equipment including motors, pumps, gearboxes, and mixers as well as manufacturing and machining parts.

Essential Duties and Other Responsibilities:
  • Strong knowledge of the repair of motors and pumps with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Assure that all work is performed safely within OSHA and ePUMPS standards and that overall shop tidiness is maintained.
  • Coordinate with Pump and Machine shop management teams to meet production needs.
  • Create daily work schedules for the machinists, tracking and expediting jobs to satisfy customer needs.
  • Assess any warranty work as required.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings to discuss any safety issues, scheduling, and any pending company information.
  • Work with Quality Assurance Team to ensure work is properly routed and performed accurately.
  • Assure that all machine shop equipment is appropriately maintained.
  • Oversee the ordering of tooling and tooling sharpening as appropriate, along with coordinating outside services, job routers, and estimating.
  • Works closely with other departments to ensure that customers receive the highest quality products delivered in an efficient and timely manner.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge and skills in Machine Shop equipment including, but not limited to, manual lathes, mills, grinders, balancers, etc.
  • Strong understanding of shop measuring instruments and measuring procedures.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, solid work ethic, and effective handling of multiple tasks.
  • Fundamental understanding of rotating equipment, fabrication/manufacturing of equipment, and machine shop practices.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Ability to deal with customers and co-workers in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of welding procedures.
  • Exhibits leadership skills, along with cohesive team building skills, time management, and problem sensitivity.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA and environmental regulations and policies.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 5-10 years of machinist experience, and leadership skills.
  • Must have Forklift Certification.

Other Skills/Abilities:
  • Basic Motor repair and testing.
  • Measurement of parts.
  • Basic Electrical 101.
  • Route cause failure analysis.

Physical Demands/Environment:
  • Walk: must be able to move about inside the shop, office, and at customer or construction sites occasionally.
  • Repeated use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, and controls.
  • Repeated use of fingers to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
  • React quickly, and make quick precise adjustments to machine controls.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • See the differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Hear sounds and recognize differences between them.
  • Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • Use muscles for extended periods without getting tired.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel as needed.
  • Must be able to communicate via phone and electronic devices in the workplace.
