Job description

The employee for this position has had prior customer relations experience in a retail food

operation. He/she must be a mature adult, possesses a pleasing general personality and has the ability to create a warm, inviting environment for our guests and is comfortable working with other team members and loves to SMILE! A high school education is required. The employee must have a sincere desire to greet the public with an exemplary positive attitude.

The Host is valuable part of the service team and must be a self-starter.

The following is a list of general duties the Host is responsible for:

  • Understands policies and procedures, including Guest Maxims & Operating Maxims.
  • Reports to work in proper dress code.
  • Knowledge of hours of operations, ability to give directions from major routes, take reservations .
  • Answers the telephone using proper telephone etiquette. Smiles through the phone, takes messages for managers when too busy to talk.
  • Takes To-Go orders over the phone
  • Extensive knowledge of menus and specials.
  • Prepares host station with adequate supply of clean menus, To-Go Menus, Menu Board is updated, thermal paper, regular paper, pens, Guest checks, business cards, gift cards, job applications, bathroom check log, busboy side work checklist, server side work checklist, crayons, tape, plastic bags, and coloring materials for the kids.
  • Welcomes and seats guests, pulls out chair when possible, bids customers happy farewell.
  • Host must know the table numbers, restaurant layout, how to map sections, and fill out a blank floor plan depending on the number of servers working that particular day.
  • Thorough knowledge of the POS system.
  • Proper handling of guest complaints and notifying manager of any complaints immediately. (Listen to guest, stay calm, apologize and get a manager to resolve the issue).
  • Job Applicants — identify what position they are applying for, give them instructions on how to apply online and notify the manager we have a job applicant in the restaurant.
  • Restroom check — make sure the bus people are doing their 45 minute checks. The checklist will be at the front.
  • Side work — make sure windows are clean, menus are clean.

The Host responsibility to the profitability of the restaurant includes, but not l

limited to:

  • Seating and turnover of tables are being used at maximum productivity.
  • If the situation arises that the kitchen is getting backed up with orders notify the manager about a seating strategy to allow the kitchen to get caught up.
  • Conserve supplies and keep any potential for waste at a minimum.

The manager will review the following topics for new hire orientation:

  • Punching in and out, dress code, proper hand washing procedure, setting up for the shift.
  • Dress Code — come to work neat, clean and composed. Long dangling earrings are not allowed, nor are flashy rings or bracelets. Jewelry allowed: wedding band & engagement ring; a watch, post earrings (no hoops). Hair tied back with a black hair tie, nails groomed and polish should be clear or light color..
  • TAKE-OUT FOOD — the menu and specials are available for guests to take-out.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
