Form of workUnder the general supervision of the Supervising Groundskeeper II, the Lead Groundskeeper I, CF will supervise inmates engaged in the planting, cultivating, propagating, transplanting and caring for trees, shrubs, hedges, flowers, lawns, and various ground covers. You will supervise and train inmates in the proper use of and maintenance of gardening tools and equipment. Design and layout minor landscape work. Supervises inmates in the operation and maintenance of greenhouses and other out grounds buildings. Maintain and make minor repairs and adjustments to sprinkler systems.
Maintain records on inmate time keeping, training, tools, equipment and supplies. Responsible for supervising and maintaining an orderly atmosphere at shop and work area by enforcing rules and policies of the department. Responsible for visually viewing your inmate workers at least once per hour for accountability. Responsible for searching assigned work area and shop for contraband, possible security breaches, as well as safety issues. Responsible to count and sign daily tool inventory for your shop/work areas at the beginning and the end of each shift.

Employees who are employed at Pelican Bay State Prison for twelve (12) consecutive qualifying pay periods will receive a $2600 per year recruitment and retention bonus.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
Pursuant to the Public Health Orders (Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings and State and Local Correctional Facilities and Detention Centers Health Care Worker Vaccination Requirement) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines and Testing for Institution Staff issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.
