Blue Ridge Power (BRP) is seeking an enthusiastic Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team. You will be responsible for providing Geotechnical Engineering support for the design, construction, and operation of solar energy projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of Geotechnical Engineers and work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure that solar projects are designed and constructed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The role requires expertise in soil mechanics, foundation design, and site characterization. You will be joining a team that is ever evolving and innovating to create unique solutions and hopefully set new industry standards. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
What You'll Do

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of Geotechnical Engineers and field techs.
  • Complete thorough Geotech reviews of all projects and evaluate potential foundation geohazards and necessary supplemental testing.
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, soil testing, laboratory testing, and Pile Load Testing (PLT).
  • Develop geotechnical design recommendations for foundation systems, including shallow and deep foundations, for Solar Racking, Balance of System (BOS) Components, and Substation Equipment.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines such as civil, structural, and electrical engineers to integrate geotechnical considerations into project design and construction.
  • Provide technical support during construction and operation phases of solar projects.
  • Assist in the development of geotechnical standards, procedures, and tools.

Must-Haves
  • 8+ years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering with some focus on solar.
  • 2+ years managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, and geohazard evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to Geotechnical Engineering in solar.
  • Proficient in Office 365, LPILE, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or other industry standard software.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team and work collaboratively with other disciplines.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously whether it be internally our externally sourced.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Extensive experience in utility scale solar projects
  • Knowledge in solar standard foundation designs (H-Piles, Screw Piles, Helical Piles, Piers, Spread Footings, Slabs, etc.)
  • Coding Experience (VBA, Python, etc.)

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, Civil Engineering Required
  • Master's Degree, Engineering Preferred
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) Required
  • Diplomate, Geotechnical Engineer (D.GE) Preferred

Working Environment and Physical Demand
  • May require lifting/carrying heavier items for field related work.
  • The job will initially require frequent visits to site locations, and physical ability to inspect site conditions, equipment, and construction activities.
  • This is a hybrid position (some field work, remote work, and office work required). Preferred office work locations are Fayetteville, Raleigh, or Asheville, NC.
