Job description

Summary

The Leadership Thru Generations Project (LEAD-GEN) supports our next generations of Inupiat leaders through innovative outreach, media, training, and mentorship. The LEAD-GEN Lead Mentor is responsible for co-leading the Leadership Thru Generations Project alongside the Inuuniaqliqput Director (ID). The Lead Mentor will supervise early-career interns to be deeply rooted in Inupiat Ilitqusiat values and have a growing knowledge of both Inupiat and western ways in the workforce. The Lead Mentor will help with daily learning discussions focused on various topics, including culturally integrated approaches in professional practices. The position will also schedule interns to work alongside staff on Inuuniaqliqput and other Aqqaluk Trust Projects. A projected start date in January 2024. This position reports directly to the Inuuniaqliqput Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  •   Supervises and manages LEAD-GEN Leadership Interns to work with various members of Aqqaluk Trust staff.
  •  Work with ID on daily learning discussions for Interns.
  •  Provide mentorship and guidance for Leadership Interns as they learn the many aspects of our Inupiaq way of life such as language, family systems, subsistence, environment, culture, well-being, and spirituality, with the goal of setting a foundational root-system for a well-balanced life.
  • Help Leadership Interns develop a basic understanding of western concepts in business, health, natural resources, communications, education, and economy.
  • Help Leadership Interns discover their career goals and assist them in making a Shareholder development plan to accomplish their goals.
  • Assist with providing learning opportunities with Inupiaq leaders to help Leadership Interns discover ways to become successful as Inupiat.
  • Assist in various events such as the Regional Youth and Elders and Inupiaq Language Conferences and Camp Sivunniigvik.
  • Maintain communications with other regional organizations to collaborate and promote the Leadership Thru Generations Project.
  •  Assist Inuuniaqliqput Operations Manager in fundraising and grant work.
  •  Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  •  Must have knowledge of Inupiat Ilitqusait and other Inupiaq cultural wisdom, as well as a basic understanding of Inupiatun and willingness to learn the Inupiaq language.
  •  At least one-year supervisory and one-year working with target age group.
  • Must be able to operate in a climate of confidentiality requiring discretion.
  • A valid Alaska driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Aqqaluk Trust's insurance carrier is required as well as the ability to travel extensively utilizing many different forms of transportation.
  • Be willing to travel as needed.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Environmentally controlled, requires most work to be done inside. May occasionally be exposed to harsh outdoor weather conditions.

Noise level: Quiet to Moderate

Environment: Office environment with customer interaction both in person, over the phone and by email. The pace of the work environment is moderate.

Travel: Up to 10% of the time

Physical requirements: Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Must constantly be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands and arms. Will occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch.
