Provide high levels of excellence an professionalism in rendering superior, customer-focused services to residential students of the University, with close attention to detail and with a caring and concerned approach, targeted at delivering outstanding results in serving customer needs and achieving high levels of customer satisfaction and devoted to a “students first” attitude, working to ensure that University Housing facilities are well-maintained, clean and safe for the students of Christopher Newport University,

Purpose of the Position:

This position is responsible for assisting supervisor with directing and overseeing the work of Floor Technicians team. The position will also perform Floor Technician work, housekeeping and upholstery duties as well as to ensure all assigned buildings are well maintained at all times. Ensuring the work is completed in a safe manner is part of every aspect of this role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position:

Knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning supplies
Skilled in the use of housekeeping and floor maintenance equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffers, and scrubbing machines, burnishers, carpet extractors, electrostatic equipment, blowers, pressure washers.
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent supervisory skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to direct work assignments
Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs., tolerate frequent bending, stooping, and climbing stairs
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain positive relations with faculty, staff and students
Ability to work a flexible schedule and be on-call on a rotational basis

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Experience overseeing the work of others.
Experience in cleaning methods and cleaning supplies.
Experience using various flooring equipment and tools such as vacuum cleaner, buffer, and scrubbing machine, extractors, burnishers.

Prior experience working at a higher education or university.
