The role:
Do you posses a supervisor electrician license? We are recruiting for a Lead Electrician in Portland! In this role, you will work throughout Region 1 on traffic signals, highway illumination, roadside flashers and building grounds owned by ODOT. You will support other electricians in the district to complete their projects. Apply today!

A day in the life:
  • Perform roadside electrical work on traffic signals, sign illumination, highway illumination, traffic count systems and control circuits operated by time clocks or photo electric devices.
  • Replace, program and troubleshoot traffic signals controllers, traffic signal field wiring and traffic detection circuits.
  • Update road weather information systems, roadway video/camera systems, flashing beacons and sign messages.
  • Assist with maintenance on distribution panels, branch circuits, fixtures and motor controls.
  • Work on and below bridges; navigation lights, aviation warning beacons, drawbridge controls and any other related services.
  • Encourage a unified work environment for internal and external partners.
  • Act as liaison with others involved in projects such as state inspectors, representatives of local power companies, other jurisdictions and crews.
  • Prioritize tasks for each phase of work based on skills in the unit.
  • Plan, assign and review the work of lower-level employees in the unit.
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and may require working at heights in excess of 110 feet, electrical shock hazards, lifting up to 50 pounds and being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to emergencies.

Minimum qualifications:
A general supervising electrical license.
Special qualifications:
  • This position requires a maximum 60 minute response time to 9200 SE Lawnfield Rd, Clackamas, Or 97015 for emergency call-outs.
  • Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license B (CDL-B), no air brake restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class B commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-B with restrictions removed within six months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs) to be considered eligible for this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.

  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting traffic signals.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting 480V highway illumination systems.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting generators and transfer switches.
  • Demonstrated experience working in, around and over heavy vehicle traffic.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting a team.
