The Lead Data Architect will gain an understanding of the company's data and how it fits together while creating a common definition of the data itself. The architect will build large complex datasets from numerous sources, ensuring they fit into a project, and will structure the data in a way that best suites the needs of the users.
The Lead Data Architect will become an expert in comprehending our organization's data landscape, including system knowledge and the business processes that influence data flows within data environments. The primary responsibility will involve designing and implementing robust data and analytics frameworks. These frameworks will serve to meticulously structure our data, provide context, and ensure seamless accessibility for key business users.
Collaboration with diverse project teams, business leaders, and technology experts will be integral to your success. Effective communication, deep system understanding, and the application of contemporary modeling and design techniques are vital components of this role.

Responsibilities:
Data Architecture:
  • Design and implement data models to effectively represent and manage company data and analytics.
  • Develop of an understanding of how data can fit together.
  • Investigate the company's data ecosystem, gaining a comprehensive understanding of upstream and downstream systems and addressing governance issues.
  • Identify common definitions and classifications across the company and then generalize a primary set of definitions.
  • Leads the development, building, and certification of comprehensive data sets, combining various smaller data sets and optimizing the architecture for user-friendliness.
  • Translate business requirements into data models and datasets aligned with the company's strategic and business initiatives.
  • Evaluate database structural requirements based on needs of the users who need data to perform analysis and build applications.
  • Develop and follow a program of best practices. Collaborate with various project teams, business and technical leaders to review and identify opportunities for maximizing data utilization.

System Support:
  • Lead the organization metadata policies, describing, and management of metadata ensuring that metadata is well documented, standardized, and accessible to those who need it.
  • Lead the organization of the company's Business Intelligence Discovery Site and its data and analytical assets to align with data models.
  • Create a certification process for datasets in the Discovery Site.
  • Manages process to coordinate ad hoc report requests for data.
  • Works with the business to enable self-serve data preparation flows.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in IT, Information Science or Business related program
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • 5+ years in database design, database management, and/or IT system design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact with business frequently
  • Proficient in data modeling and design, including SQL development, system integration, and database administration

Preferred:
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience with AWS
  • Business Intelligence system administration
  • Knowledge of Python and data science principles
  • Experience with Alation, Tableau
  • Project management skills, Agile
