What you'll do...
Join the litigation team and advise business and leadership about legal rights, obligations, and risks while assisting appellate and complex litigation for the world's largest retailer. The Lead Counsel - Appellate and Complex Litigation role is critical for developing and driving a consistent strategy across the litigation portfolio, as well as strategizing potential affirmative litigation on behalf of the company. You will also collaborate with the commercial litigation team to develop strategy on complex issues. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to mitigate legal and business risk, providing legal advice and counsel. You will also retain, manage, and collaborate closely with outside counsel to drive case strategy, review and edit court submissions, and manage legal spend.

- Driving legal strategies for the company's appellate and complex litigation matters
- Providing legal advice and counsel to internal stakeholders
- Managing outside counsel and legal spend for appellate and complex litigation matters
- Reviewing legislative trends and significant legal decisions
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for strategic litigation
- Working with internal and external counsel to develop consistent, high-quality written work product on behalf of the company
- Law degree from an accredited law school and 7 years' experience in law
- Appellate clerkship
- At least four years of appellate practice experience post-clerkship
- License to practice law in at least one U.S. state and in good standing

- You're an appellate expert, with experience briefing and arguing appeals in state and federal courts
- You've built amicus coalitions on behalf of clients' litigation positions
- You're driven to execute and to act quickly
- You're process-minded and look for opportunities to streamline for improved efficiency and effectiveness
- You have strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with senior leadership and stakeholders
